It started in Vancouver. After work, the team would chip in for a bottle and take turns pouring for each other blind. Nobody knew what was in the glass, so you had to trust your palate, make a call and see how close you got.
I was a chef before I worked in wine, so tasting something and making up my own mind about it was already second nature. When I moved into the wine industry in Central Otago, the blind tasting came with me, now around working wineries and winemakers.
Hidden Bottle Collective is my way of taking that outside the industry. Taste without the label, make your call, then find out what it is and who made it.
